Organ preservation and transportation device using warm perfusion technology

OrganOx is a medical technology company that has developed leading organ preservation and transportation device. Its core technology, the Metra, is based on warm preservation and is designed to mimic the human body by continuously perfusing organs at physiological pressures using red blood cells. This technology is called Normothermic Machine Perfusion (NMP), which is considered to be the most important innovation in transplantation since the arrival of modern immunosuppressive drugs in the 1980s. The Metra device (1st commercialized in 2019) expands the number of organs suitable for transplantation, allowing transplant centers to operate on more patients. It enables surgeons to confidently transplant “marginal” livers that would have been otherwise discarded, thanks to its objective assessment of organ performance.
